परमाणु परममहत्त्वान्तोऽस्य वशीकारः ॥४०॥

पदविभाग: परमाणु-परम-महत्त्व-अन्तः, अस्य, वशीकारः। 

अन्वय: अस्य परमाणु-परममहत्त्व-अन्तः वशीकारः । 

प्रतिपदार्थ: परमाणु = the smallest atom / the infinitesimal particle, परम = to the ultimate / supreme, महत्त्व = greatness / magnitude / the infinitely large, अन्तः = extending up to / ending at / its limit, अस्य = of this (the stabilized mind), वशीकारः = mastery / complete control / unhindered power.

तात्पर्यम्: The mastery of this (stabilized mind) extends from the atomic level to the infinite.

Further context on the 40th Sutra from Patanjali’s Yogasutras

Across various traditions (including Advaita Vedanta, Samkhya, and Tantra), IKS posits that the individual consciousness (Atman) and the ultimate universal reality (Brahman) share the exact same essence. So mastering this fluctuating mind means to master all that it can hold. I believe it is a state of the mind that is one or infinite or undivided. The verse hints at a control of the mind that’s complete and not in bits and pieces. This is an outcome of pacifying the monkey mind.
